The basics

How percentages work

Three formulas cover every percentage question you will ever face.

01

What is X% of Y?

(X / 100) x Y
18% x 250 / 100 = 45

Example: 18% of $250 = $45

02

What percent of Y is X?

(X / Y) x 100
(42 / 50) x 100 = 84%

Example: 42 out of 50 = 84%

03

Percentage change A to B

((B - A) / A) x 100
((46-40)/40) x 100 = 15%

Example: $40 to $46 = +15%

Quick mental-math shortcuts

About

Built to be genuinely useful

MyPctCalculator is a free suite of percentage calculators for everyday math -- tips, discounts, grades, margins, and more. No signup, no paywalls, and no ads placed over the tool itself.

It's designed and maintained by De Van Do, an independent developer with a background in technology. What began as curiosity about building tools for financial literacy grew into a small network of free calculator sites covering percentages, loans, insurance, and taxes.

We don't think utility websites should be aggressive about monetization at the expense of the people using them. That means no pop-ups, no mandatory accounts, no ads covering the calculator, and no dark patterns designed to make you click something you didn't mean to.

How the calculations work. Every formula on this site uses standard, peer-reviewed mathematical definitions, and each calculator shows its working so you can check the result yourself. For the full picture, read more on our About page or review our Disclaimer.
